DAN BROOKS - ACADEMY DIRECTOR

Now in his 21st year running the Duke Academy of Golf and his 34th summer working youth golf schools, Dan Brooks is a PGA Class A Teaching Professional and the women’s golf coach at Duke University. In 33 years with the women’s team, he has led his squads to 27 NCAA Championship appearances, including national titles in 1999, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2014, as well as runner-up finishes in 2001 and 2013. The six NCAA titles are six of seven national championships for a female sport, and six of 16 overall, in Duke’s history. As a coach, he holds the most national championships for any sport in school history. His program also produced back-to-back NCAA individual

champions in 2001 and 2002, another in 2005, and the fourth NCAA individual medalist in 2016. The Blue Devils have dominated the ACC during Brooks’ stint as the head coach, winning 13 consecutive ACC Championships from 1996-2008 and 19 overall. Brooks’ squads have finished the year ranked No. 1 in the country eight times during his career.


A 2001 National Golf Coaches Association Hall of Fame inductee, Brooks has coached 23 All-America selections, including Virada Nirapathpongporn, Sarah LeBrun, Stephanie Sparks, Kathi Poppmeier, Jenny Chuasiriporn, Beth Bauer, Candy Hannemann, Brittany Lang, Anna Grzebien, Liz Janangelo, Jennie Lee, Amanda Blumenherst, Lindy Duncan, Celine Boutier, Virginia Elena Carta, and Leona Maguire. A total of 26 former women’s team members have gone on to play professionally. Two of his players, Jenny Chuasiriporn (1998) and Brittany Lang (2005), finished as the runner-up at the U.S. Open as amateurs. Brooks has been voted ACC Coach of the Year 14 times. He is also a nine-time Regional Coach of the Year and was the 1999, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2007, and 2014 National Coach of the Year for his efforts. He ranks first in NCAA history with 128 tournament wins. Brooks was inducted into the Duke Athletics Hall of Fame in 2016.
